It was the brainchild of Marcel Bezençon—a Swiss TV exec who pinched the format from an Italian music festival where unreleased tracks vied in competition for the title of best new song.
So far so good—though it behoves me to mention that Switzerland was neutral in WW2 which might explain why Eurovision is such a bland, inoffensive and unbearably condescending idea…...
If either has ever surfaced on a bootleg, it’s news to me.
So, the Eurovision Song Contest that tacky annual sing-a-long started off as a way of bringing together those many battle-weary nations of Europe after the long bloody devastation of the Second World War.
Both are among the very, very best albums of the post punk era—I’d rate their debut in my top three of all time, it’s a masterpiece—and both urgently need to be rediscovered by a new generation (for group of the early 80s, but you’d never really know that in 2016 unless you were around at the time.

We all get old, but the Psychedelic Furs have, let’s face it, It’s not many photographers whose works can withstand comparison to Rembrandt and Vermeer, but if there is one, then William Mortensen is that photographer. Then of course there has always been a lot of crap—way, way too much to mention.Still the Eurovision remains incredibly popular—some 200 million people watched the show go out live in 2015.He also says that whenever his wife at that time, Suchi Asano, was out of town, he gets all of his “sandwiches and cakes and strong coffee” at Pedro Bakery.(He also vastly prefers NYC to LA, which makes him crazy.) if you ask their original legions of fanatical fanboys like me—and they’ve been no more than an oldies act for decades now, you still cannot beat the first two Psychedelic Furs albums.
Mortensen’s experiences in the fantasy factory of Hollywood provided a solid starting point for his jaw-dropping exercises in imaginative manipulation.
